A lot of the foods that women are told to avoid or eat less of during pregnancy, are actually the most nutritious...
Oysters, liver, raw fish, raw dairy..
Rather than being told to avoid or eat less of these nutritious foods, women should be educated and encouraged to source high quality, fresh products.
There’s a big difference between oysters found in a supermarket deli, and fresh oysters from your local farmers market.
There’s a big difference between liver causing vitamin A toxicity, and eating safe healthful amounts daily.
There’s a big difference between low fat dairy spreads filled with seed oils, and full fat butter packed with essential vitamins.
At a time where nutritional intake matters most, shouldn’t pregnant women be encouraged to eat the most nutrient dense foods that are abundant in vitamins, minerals, fats and protein?
These are foods like liver, oysters, eggs, fatty cuts of meat on the bone, and full fat dairy such as butter, ghee, milk, cheese, cream and yoghurt (raw if possible).
So rather than missing out on these nutritious foods that may hold a higher risk for bacteria, or have been labelled by the mass as unhealthy, why not focus on quality?
What if you blocked out all the noise and really tuned into your body’s needs?
Do you crave the low fat milk, or that full fat milk with cream on top?
Choose fresh, organic, local, wild caught, pasture raised, grass fed etc…and allow your body to benefit from these wonderful, time honoured foods 🌿
