Iodine - The Power Of Kelp

Iodine - The Power Of Kelp

Kelp is a nutrient rich seaweed that has been used for centuries to promote health and vitality, and is one of the best natural food sources of iodine.

Our body requires iodine to make thyroid hormones, and we store iodine in the thyroid gland.

During pregnancy the thyroid becomes way more active, producing approximately 50% more thyroid hormones!

This means that pregnant women need extra iodine to produce enough thyroid hormones to support the healthy development of their baby, including the nervous system & brain development

When breastfeeding, thyroid activity returns to normal, however babies get all their iodine through breastmilk. This means that breastfeeding women need extra iodine to meet this increased demand.

In addition to iodine, kelp is also a wonderful source of iron, folate, calcium, magnesium, vitamin K1, and B vitamins, including vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12, which support the immune system, healthy energy levels, and promote healthy fetal development.

It’s recommended that women have 220mcg of iodine per day during pregnancy, and 290mcg of iodine per day when breastfeeding, with a tolerable upper limit of 1,100mcg daily.

Kelp is a key ingredient in our Female Nourish Blend, providing a healthful dose of iodine to support a healthy pregnancy.

Other good sources of iodine come from wild caught fish, oysters, beef liver, eggs and raw dairy.
